Foundations to Freedom is proud to spotlight Crystal Nelson, who recently celebrated her one-year anniversary with the organization on March 31st.

Crystal first joined Foundations to Freedom as a Transportation Specialist after hearing about the organization through her husband, Les.

While she truly enjoyed spending time with clients and helping them get where they needed to go, she quickly realized she wanted to do even more to support the mission.

Determined to grow within the organization, Crystal approached Katherine Russell about expanding her role. She began assisting with outreach efforts and working with the Narcan program. When a position became available in compliance and grant coordination, Crystal had already been contributing in many of those areas, making the transition a natural fit.

Today, Crystal serves as Compliance Specialist & Grant Coordinator, where she plays an important role in helping Foundations to Freedom continue providing critical services to the community.

“What I enjoy most is the people I work with,” Crystal shared. “It feels like a family. I enjoy being in recovery and working alongside others in recovery while doing what it takes to help the organization grow.”

Crystal is passionate about the importance of funding and resources that allow Foundations to Freedom to continue meeting community needs.

“There is always a need for funding to provide the much-needed services in the community,” she said. “Looking at where I came from and where I am now, I can’t help but think of all the people who could have the same experience.”

Working alongside her husband has also been a positive part of her journey.

“I only see pros of working with my husband,” Crystal said. “We’ve been married for almost 22 years and have been through a lot of hard things together. We are in a really good place now, and we push each other to be better. When we are at home, we focus on our family and ourselves. And when we are at work, we focus on work and keep them separate.”

Thank you, Crystal, for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to helping others find hope and healing through recovery.
