For the past three and a half years, Leslee Nelson has been a dedicated part of the team at Foundations to Freedom—growing both professionally and personally alongside the individuals he serves.
Leslee began his journey as a Care Coordinator, was promoted to Case Manager, and for the past year and a half, has served as Program Director. His leadership reflects not only experience, but a deep commitment to recovery and transformation.
Family is also part of his story—his wife, Crystal, joined the Foundations to Freedom team a year ago, making their shared mission even more meaningful.
What Leslee enjoys most about his work is simple, yet powerful: sharing his own experiences and watching others change their lives for the better.
Like many in this field, he recognizes the emotional challenges that come with the work. One of the hardest parts is wanting success for clients even more than they want it for themselves. Leslee emphasizes the importance of staying grounded, recharging emotionally, and focusing on those who are putting in the work—because compassion fatigue is real.
His motivation comes from something deeply personal. Leslee wants others to experience the same sense of fulfillment he feels when he returns home to his family each day. He believes the best thing he can do is continue educating clients, supporting them, and giving them the time they need to experience what he calls “the miracle.”
Looking ahead, Leslee sees one of the greatest challenges facing clients as the transition from transitional housing to permanent independence, where financial barriers can often stand in the way.
Still, his outlook remains hopeful and determined: Leslee is committed to helping as many people as possible find their path to lasting recovery.
