About foundations to freedom

Foundations to Freedom provides recovery housing Central Florida residents can depend on for structure, safety, and peer support during their journey to lasting recovery.

At Foundations to Freedom, our mission is to provide individuals seeking recovery from substance use disorders with a safe, structured, and supportive home-like environment that fosters recovery, personal growth, and civic responsibility.

Empowering Recovery and Transformation

Foundations to Freedom is a community-based non-profit that helps clients reclaim their dignity and acquire the knowledge, skills, support, and resources they will need to maintain a drug-free, purposeful, and productive life. Our programs support individuals and veterans in recovery seeking structure, community, and a path to lasting freedom.

Our Founder’s Journey

Katherine Russell, our founder, uses her experience overcoming addiction to fuel our mission. As the Executive Director, Katherine’s profound understanding of the recovery process and sober living homes shapes the very essence of our approach.

Life Beyond Recovery

Quitting substances is just the first stage of the recovery process. True recovery is about finding yourself, uncovering your strength, and committing to personal growth. Our comprehensive programs offer a roadmap to recovery and the resources and support needed to sustain it

Foundations to Freedom proudly supports veterans who are rebuilding life after service. Our recovery housing and peer programs help veterans overcome PTSD, substance use, and the challenges of transitioning back into civilian life with purpose and dignity.

A Compassionate Team

Our team of professionals understands the complexities of addiction. Most of our employees are in long-term recovery. Our compassionate team is comprised of certified recovery peer support specialists, case managers, care coordinators, and a transportation team.

the foundations to freedom method

phase 1

Clients settle into their sober living homes, begin working on their recovery wellness action plans, and establish a support system to help them maintain recovery. Clients must seek employment, attend daily mutual support meetings, and must abstain from alcohol and any mood/mind-altering substance. Foundations to Freedom staff provide mandatory drug screening and breathalyzer for all clients.

phase 2

Each phase of our program builds upon the prior phase. In phase 2, clients continue their efforts from phase 1 while they work on essential life skills like managing a list of chores and creating a personal budget. During this phase, clients will attend mutual support groups and work on recovery and relapse prevention. They learn to develop life skills and address issues like co-dependency and anger management with their peer support specialists.

phase 3

Clients continue working on and completing the tasks outlined in Phase 1 and 2. Foundations to Freedom case managers and peer support specialists continue to have regular check-ins with each client, providing emotional care and monitoring their progress. The clients receive additional benefits, as outlined in the program.

At the end of Phase 3, clients graduate from the Foundations to Freedom program! Before graduation, we meet with each client to create a transition plan their case manager must approve. We also work with each client to develop a list of external resources, including healthcare professionals, sponsors, and educational institutions.

Phase 4

Foundations to Freedom offers alumni transitional housing for up to one year on a week-to-week lease agreement. Clients must continue to maintain employment, sustain recovery, submit to drug testing, and participate in aftercare services with their peer support specialist and case management.

What is a halfway house?

Clients of halfway houses must find employment and begin to reintegrate into the community.

We provide sober living homes for women and their children, offering a supportive environment to navigate the recovery process. Our program focuses on rebuilding families and, when needed, supports reunification efforts with the Department of Children and Families, the court system, and other external agencies.

Our safe house for victims of domestic violence offers a secure, confidential refuge where clients find safety, support, and resources to begin rebuilding their lives.
